MEDICAL & EYESIGHT As part of the recruitment and selection entry requirements, it will be necessary for you to undergo an eyesight and medical examination. You will be advised of the details of these appointments in due course. Eyesight The Optician will asses your vision to our eyesight entry standards and although the vision standards are a guidance, they are not exhaustive and a thorough eye examination may still reveal a difficulty which cannot be accommodated within the role of an operational firefighter. The final decision is made by the Service’s Medical Advisor. Medical You will also be invited to attend our Occupational Unit for a medical examination, which will be carried out by the and Fire & Rescue Service Medical Advisor. In addition, an aerobic fitness test will be carried out using a treadmill to identify the level of fitness that would be required of someone entering the fire service. You will be required to demonstrate an aerobic fitness standard of 42 VO² max.
