A reduced pension is payable to the widow of a Fire & Rescue Service pensioner.

Meals on Duty - Meals on duty can be provided in the Station Mess that is run by a Mess Manager appointed from among the staff. Cooking facilities, utensils and crockery are provided and members only pay for the cost of the food.

Welfare - Every officer is keenly interested in the day-to-day welfare of his/her personnel and is there to solve problems, or give advice as and when required. The FRS runs a Recreation and Welfare Fund that finances its members' activities in these important fields. The FRS encourages involvement in all the work of the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund which looks after all firefighters and ex-firefighters during illness or hardship.

Recruit Basic Training Courses - If your application is successful you will be required to undertake a 3 month training course.

Promotion Prospects - All new Firefighter recruits start their careers as firefighters irrespective of age or academic qualification.

Postings - All firefighters must undertake to serve anywhere in the Wiltshire County Fire & Rescue Service area and although every effort is made to ensure that a member serves at the station of his/her choice, this cannot be guaranteed.

Courses - All firefighters and officers are now part of a structured system of progressive learning and undertake to attend residential courses and seminars at the direction of the Chief Fire Officer.
