There are various career paths for the wholetime firefighter. These include:


Legislative Fire Safety
The FRS must be consulted about any new buildings that are still in the planning stage. Community Safety Managers negotiate with architects and construction engineers to ensure that new buildings are as safe as possible from fire. They also inspect hundreds of factories, offices, shops, theatres, cinemas and dance halls to maintain the highest standards of safety. For this work, managers with good technical knowledge and sound firefighting experience are required.

Training
Training of all kinds is a vital part of the Fire & Rescue Service's duties. If you have a flair for teaching others you will find scope for your abilities in the FRS.

Staff Managers
No organisation can make progress without a competent group of managers who carry out the day-to-day management, investigate the possibilities of of new techniques and equipment and deal with all forward planning matters.

Retained (part-time) Firefighter - where you can be a firefighter as well as working another job
Control Room Operator - working in the Emergency Services Control Centre in Devizes, receiving, recording and directing incidents
